Lincoln County was formed in 1869 and named in honor of President Abraham Lincoln. Lincoln County is the site of the Lincoln County War, one of the most violent periods in NM history, between ranchers and owners of a general store. It is famous for the participation of Billy the Kid and has fueled the tourism trade in Lincoln. Lincoln County joins the Triadic Mass Pay System to help their office stop refunds and duplicate payments.
